Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging modality of choice when evaluating lesions within the pituitary gland and around the sella.  Pituitary adenomas are the most common tumour within the sella, but there are several other lesions that may be seen in this region, including meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas and other non-neoplastic lesions.  A series of cases will be presented highlighting the classical features of pituitary adenomas on MRI, as well as some atypical cases.  A systematic approach to MRI will be discussed as well as some features that may suggest an alternative diagnosis.
